Hyannis Massachusetts

Cape Cod's commercial heart

Hyannis is Cape Cod’s only truly urban village. It’s the cape’s commercial and transportation center, sometimes even called “The Capital of the Cape”, with the Barnstable Town offices, two shopping districts, and the largest hospital on Cape Cod.

Tourism and transport are key to Hyannis. It’s the primary ferry and air connection for passengers and freight to Nantucket Island and provides additional access to Martha’s Vineyard. With a large natural harbor, Hyannis is popular with both recreational and commercial boating.

President John F. Kennedy was a notable citizen of the satellite village of Hyannis Port, with his extended family still fixtures in the community. The old Barnstable Town Hall on Main street in Hyannis holds the JFK Hyannis Museum, while a memorial on the Lewis Bay waterfront holds a memorial to the deceased president, with a fountain and a field-stone monument with the presidential seal.
